The first state to introduce legislation aimed towards restoring private property rights to constituents' investment securities was South Dakota, through House Bill 1199. Other states, including Tennessee, Minnesota, Mississippi, and South Dakota, introduced analogs of this legislation during the 2024 legislative sessions. Though none of these bills passed in 2024, these states--and several others--have signaled their commitment to introducing legislation again in 2025.
